Summer in the Engadin

Summer in the Engadin – lakes, mountains and day trips from St. Moritz

In summer, St. Moritz Bad is an ideal base: Lake St. Moritz is close by, and the Upper Engadine lakes and mountain railways are within easy reach.

The Upper Engadine lakes

At around 1,800 m, four large lakes line the valley between St. Moritz and Maloja: Lake St. Moritz, Lake Champfèr, Lake Silvaplana and Lake Sils. On Lake Sils the motor ship Segl-Maria operates Europe’s highest scheduled boat service.

Water sports

The Maloja wind makes Lake Silvaplana one of the best-known spots for kitesurfers and windsurfers. Lake St. Moritz is popular for sailing.

Hiking, biking and viewpoints

Hiking and biking trails lead through larch forests, across alpine pastures and along the lakes. Mountain railways such as the funicular up Muottas Muragl take you to viewpoints high above the valley.

To Italy on the Bernina Express

From St. Moritz the Bernina Express crosses the Bernina Pass to Tirano in Italy. This Rhaetian Railway line is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
